Today, two of Vancouver’s most prominent up-and-coming artists (IAMTHELIVING and Teon Gibbs) have announced the release of their new EP JNGL (out June 1, 2021 on Tiny Kingdom Music) - and their forthcoming single “Distance” (out February 2, 2021). Listen to “Distance” HERE.
Written by the duo, and produced by 40K, “Distance” is an instantaneously addictive track that highlights their creativity when it comes to crafting a song. Bridging the gap between R&B, pop, hip-hop, and soul, IAMTHELIVING and Teon Gibbs come together in funky harmony to deliver a seven-track EP titled JNGL. "We wanted to create a project that embodies who we are, where we’re from, and shows what we can do. The word “JNGL” just seemed to capture it all. Being from Botswana, the word jungle has followed me around my entire life, and IAMTHELIVING is originally from South London, which is the concrete jungle - this project is those worlds meeting...” Gibbs explains, “The sounds on this project are big and diverse but at the same time we really took a grassroots approach to making it, I think that’s why even though the sound fills the room it can still resonate with the listener’s core. "
Rian Peters - known as IAMTHELIVING - is a soul singer from South East London who grew up magnetized by the sounds of Micheal Jackson, Prince, and Stevie Wonder. Following his music destiny to the West Coast, Rian now feels at home in Vancouver - both physically and with his art. A musician with a distinct yet versatile sound and an incredible stage presence IAMTHELIVING will captivate any listener who comes in contact with him.
Gibbs is a rapper/producer from Botswana, Africa. As a child, he moved between South Africa, Angola, and the U.K with his family before eventually setting roots in Vancouver, where he now calls home. A multi-faceted artist who often blurs the lines of musical genres and recreates a sound all his own with confidence and versatility, Gibbs is determined to make his way into the speakers of anyone who wants to catch a vibe.
While creating positive energy through art and crossing genres through their collaborative sound, IAMTHELIVING and Teon Gibbs and make a distinct connection on JNGL with the intent to move listeners from their soul and to lead by example for other Black voices to connect in their city. “We really feel like we've created our own little lane and we can really shed light on how dope the Vancouver music scene is!"
