Emerging out the chaos of 2020, the collaboration between IAMTHELIVING and Teon Gibbs now brings excitement into ’21. Celebrating the release of their genre-splicing debut EP JNGL (jungle), the duo have released a stunning, powerful music film for the focus track "Where Do We Go From Here", written and directed by Darion Trotman.
“It is a song that touches on a few deep issues, from alcohol addiction, racism; police brutality, to environmental issues. We live in a world where there are so many different problems that we face and we all want change but then we always seem to find ourselves at a crossroad not knowing where to go to achieve true peace, love and joy that we all want from this life experience” says Peters.
The duo consists of South East London crooner Rian Peters (IAMTHELIVING) and Motswana rapper-come-producer Teon Gibbs. Both now residing in Canada, Vancouver is the pinpoint of their sonic rendezvous. Together, they are creating music that is not only electric but is a uniting force, the title of their EP being symbolic of this – the concrete jungle versus dense, green wilderness. “We wanted to create a project that embodies who we are, where we’re from, and shows what we can do. The word “JNGL” just seemed to capture it all,” says Teon.
Fusing hip-hop grooves, sumptuous vocals and earworm riffs, JNGL flawlessly captures the zeitgeist of the early 2000s whilst showcasing a sound which is completely their own.
"Sun-soaked and sweaty, effortless and effervescent...The EP’s six tracks compel us to dance, feel, and consider ourselves and our surrounding world, all while dancing the days and nights away." ~ Atwood Magazine
